Learn about how the people of Hakata use to live during the Meiji and Tashio period, at Hakata Machiya Hometown Museum.
The main exhibition hall showcases traditional crafts and other relics passed down through local merchant families. A key highlight is the Machiya Townhouse, a mid-Meiji period house that has been restored and is now designated as a cultural property of Fukuoka City.
In addition to these exhibits, the museum occasionally hosts live demonstrations of traditional folk crafts made by skilled Hakatan artists.
General admission is ¥200 for adults, while admission is free for junior high and elementary school students.
