Best known as the host of the famous Takayama Spring Festival, also known as the Sanno Matsuri, the shrine is a peaceful spot surrounded by tall trees.

The seemingly modest shrine contains the floats used in the annual festival, including the karakuri – large marionette-like figures who move in a hauntingly life-like fashion. The temple’s full name is the Hida-sannogu Hie-Jinja, and is dedicated to family safety.
