Opened in 2017 and serving up local specialities, Genki Ichiba is a market with a mix of food and souvenirs. You can pick up seafood caught fresh by local fishermen, regional sake, freshly-baked bread and any number of other ingredients and gifts. There are options to ship items across Japan with great packing by the super-friendly staff. On the second floor is a food court called Genki Shokudo, with dishes from local restaurants (lots of fish) served up daily.

After being devastated during the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, Ishinomkai has been rebuilding and Genki Ichiba is part of the drive to promote Tohoku produce and support local businesses. The market is located beside the ferry port for Tashirojima, aka cat island, so it’s a great place to stop off on your way to see the cats.
