This small information center is dedicated to telling the story of Ishinomaki before, during and after the earthquake and tsunami of March 11th, 2011.
The center is run by long-term resident Richard Halberstadt who has been in Ishinomaki for over 20 years. The museum is a mix of films, photos and written accounts of the disaster as well as what followed, with sections dedicated to the city’s history beforehand. As not much of the information is available in English, its worth emailing to find out when Halberstadt will be in if you would like to ask questions ets. He is very friendly and accommodating so be sure to say hello if you drop in!
