Lake Tateshina makes for a nice pitstop if you’re driving through the Chino area in Nagano Prefecture. Stroll around the lake with the Yatsugatake peaks looming above, and enjoy the open-air Tateshina Highland Museum, make friends with some local goats, have an ice cream or pick up some local souvenirs. Parking is free.
